Youth Council Members

David Black

David Black Jr. 

Mayor Black is a senior, who is excited to impact his community by giving back his time and service. His extracurricular activities include playing basketball for his high school and reading. Following high school, David plans to attend an engineering school majoring in mechanical engineering and robotics. David is serving his second term with the Hinesville Youth Council.

Austin Martin

Austin Martin

Councilmember Martin is a junior and member of the National Honor Society. In his spare time, he enjoys track, baseball, acting and singing. He plans to finish his education, then start his own business. Austin says that he could see himself in politics one day. This is his second term with the Hinesville Youth Council.

Mariyah Carter

Councilmember Carter is a sophomore, heavily involved in JROTC and Junior Leadership Academic Bowl. In her spare time, she enjoys sewing, cooking, writing, and listening to music. Following high school, she plans to join the Air National Guard. While serving, she would also like to go college and study law in hopes of becoming a prosecutor. Mariyah is serving her second term with the Hinesville Youth Council.

Timothy Christensen

Timothy Christensen

Councilmember Christensen is a junior, who serves in leadership capacities in the classroom and on the field. From dual enrollment and student council to team captain on his cross-country, basketball, and track teams, Timothy is no stranger to putting his best foot forward. He intends to keep up the momentum starting with his service on the Hinesville Youth Council board.

Amiyah Durrence

Councilmember Durrence is a sophomore, who demonstrates excellence in her academic and athletic performance. Amiyah is committed to serving her peers as a Representative on Student Council and Team Leader on her varsity softball team, along with her participation on cross country and soccer team. Following high school, Amiyah would like to attend Florida State and major in criminal justice in hopes of becoming a lawyer.

Hope Williams

Hope Williams

City Clerk Williams is a junior, who has a variety of interests ranging from drama club, vocal performance, and cheer leading. Her ambition drives her to continue to research opportunities that will aid in the advancement of her community, peers and herself. To take a healthy break from it all, she slows down by listening to music and taking walks. Following high school, Hope desires to get her bachelor’s in psychology and further her education towards her PhD to become a counselor or psychologist.

James Osteen

James Osteen

Mayor Pro Tem Osteen is a senior, who is excited to use his leadership skills to impact his community. He is a student athlete, playing baseball and basketball for his school. In his spare time, he likes to fish on a boat and hunt. Following high school, James would like to attend college and study to become a lawyer.
