Reserve Firefighters

The Reserve Firefighters are often referred to as Volunteer Firefighters, but are different. They are paid on a per call basis when called in and are a vital part of the Fire Department manpower. This group trains twice a month, on the second and fourth Tuesday. They are on-call 24 hours a day to provide valuable backup to the Fire Department. The Reserves also participate in various public events held by the Hinesville Fire Department. Today there are around 10 active members who help keep the Hinesville Fire Department one of the best fire departments around.

 How do I become a Reserve Firefighter?

If you are interested in becoming a Reserve Firefighter, you must first obtain an application from Hinesville Fire Department located at 103 Liberty Street . All applications are reviewed by the Chief. Please keep in mind that most members are individuals striving for a career in the fire service and being a Reserve Firefighter is a great way to start. All applicants are given due consideration and may be placed on a waiting list.

  Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Must possess a valid Georgia Drivers License
  • Must possess and show proof of insurance for your vehicle
  • Must live in the city limits of Hinesville.

Fire Department Training

Facilities

The Hinesville Fire Department maintains a well-equipped classroom for training. Classes in extrication, confined space, technical rescue as well as hose and ladder evolutions are taught in the field. These and other classes are also taught at the Georgia Fire Academy . When not in use by the department, the classroom is available to other public safety agencies. 

Functions

In Service Training - Consists of daily and bi-monthly training sessions, drill evaluations, yearly state required certifications and required drills.

New Recruit Training - Recruits attend a Georgia Fire Academy , where they spend hours of instruction in basic firefighting skills.  In addition, new recruits receive NPQ Firefighter I.

Research and Development - The training staff is responsible for research and development of new policy and updates regarding, equipment, techniques, programs, and products.

Reserve Training Advisors - Oversee the coordination of reserve firefighter training and equipment.

Legislation - Monitors state legislation effecting the department and the fire service in general.
