PROGRAM ASSISTANT NEXT STEP PROGRAM FOR THE HOMELESS COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT

The Next Step Program for the homeless is accepting applications for a Part-time Program Assistant in the Community Development Department.  The Program Coordinator is looking for an energetic, self-motivated and accomplished organizer who is capable of providing administrative support to the Next Step Program.  The assistant will ensure timely and efficient processing of all applications and reports while functioning effectively in an independent situation.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Major duties include assisting clients in filing out the application for assistance with our Homeless Prevention Programs; collecting, interpreting, recording, and maintaining data collected daily for use on quarterly monitoring reports; collaborating with the Grants Administrator and Program Coordinator on a regular basis to review the status of all current grant programs related to the Next Step Program; maintaining a good rapport with local public service agencies while displaying a solid understanding of the programs and assistance available to them through the Next Step Program.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Experience in working with the homeless or administration within a social service agency is preferable.  Must have the ability to read and interpret policies and procedures as they relate to government programs, while providing excellent oral and written communication skills.  Skills in operating such office equipment as a personal computer, calculator, fax machine, typewriter and copier are required.

Minimum qualifications include an Associates Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Sociology, Social Work or a related field, and one to two years experience in providing administrative support.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

The hourly rate for this contractual position is $11.85 per hour. Applications will be accepted through Friday, July 11, 2008 at 5:00 p.m.
