General Information

Why is a permit necessary?

  • For your personal safety and that of your family and the guests invited to your home.
  • To ensure the economic well being of the community by reducing potential spread of fire and wind damage.
  • To protect future home purchasers.

Who needs to get a permit?

Any owner, authorized agent, or contractor who desires to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, demolish, or change the occupancy of a building or structure, or to erect, install, enlarge, alter, repair remove convert, or replace any electrical, gas, mechanical or plumbing system, the installation of which is regulated by the technical codes, or to cause any such work to be done .

Do I need to get a permit for a fence?

Yes, a permit will be needed for fences. There is a $20.00 fee for the permit.

State license requirements

Applications for electrical, mechanical or plumbing permits may only be made by, and will only be issued to, an individual holding a valid state electrical, mechanical or plumbing license or to an individual performing work on a single family dwelling that is occupied by the applicant provided that all work pursuant to such a permit must be in conformity with all provisions of the codes .

How much will my permit cost?

The cost varies according to the work being performed. Our minimum building permit fee is $20.00.

How long do I have to complete the work?

All permits issued are valid for a period of 6 months. Continued progress must be made to keep the permit in the active status .

Zoning Permits for banners, special use, land clearing, etc.. are issued by the Planning and Zoning Office.

Special Permits (parades, circuses, carnivals, festivals, tent revivals, etc.) are issued by the Business License Office.
