[ARCHIVED] Georgia Municipal Association Public Comment Guidlines

Public Comment

The Georgia Municipal Association has set up guidelines for public comments during Mayor and Council Meetings, enabling residents to voice their issues, concerns, and opinions to the Council.

The Mayor or Mayor Pro Tem acts as the Presiding Officer, determining when and for how long individuals may speak, and all speakers are required to adhere to their instructions. Although the Council cannot reply to comments immediately, they will consider all concerns raised into account, with follow-up responses typically coming from the City Manager. It is imperative that all comments are delivered in a professional and respectful manner towards everyone present and those watching. Personal threats, hate speech, and any discrimination based on race, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity, gender, disability, or political beliefs are strictly forbidden, as is the use of profanity or obscene language.

Each speaker must sign in and indicate the nature of their concern on the provided form before the council meeting. This form can be found on the podium at the entrance to the Council Chambers. No speaker will be permitted to address the Council if they have not signed in.
