Citizens' Fire Academy

The Hinesville Fire Department's Office of Prevention and Education will be hosting a Citizens' Fire Academy every Wednesday evening in October from 6 to 8 PM in its Administrative Training Center located at 304 S. Commerce Street in Downtown Hinesville. The primary goal is to provide the citizens of Hinesville with hands-on education and training. The program will begin by providing an overview of the Fire Department's operations and logistics. Fire suppression and safety will teach attendees about fire behavior and how to combat fire without putting themselves in danger. The role of emergency medical services (EMS), one of the first responder agencies with which the fire department collaborates, will be discussed. During this session, hands-only CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) will be learned. Technical rescue and vehicle extrication scenarios and demonstrations will be provided. Lastly, the academy will provide essential tools to safeguard citizens' homes to prevent fires. Each session will incorporate skill-based activities to test their knowledge.

At the end of the five weeks, the graduation ceremony will celebrate the commitment and dedication of Hinesville Citizens in the program. These citizens will become ambassadors of the Hinesville Fire Department by sharing their knowledge with fellow residents, thus improving our community.

The 2025 academy has begun; we ask that you check this page in the Fall of 2026 to enroll in our second Citizens' Fire Academy.
